Yeti Yell 10.13.24

Hello Glacier Hills Community!

The PTA sincerely thanks all those who are supporting our students and teachers through their donations to our fundraiser.  As of Saturday morning, we have reached $9000 of our $12,000 goal!  We have earned extra recess for everyone!

We still have less than 40% of our school participating in the fundraiser.  Can we count on the rest of you to donate so that we can reach our goal?  It takes every Yeti to Make Our School Cool!  Donations can be made online until Sunday night at 11:59pm.   https://www.successfund.com/k2q2j

$20 per student is the requested amount, but please donate what you can.  When the $12,000 goal is reached, our teachers and staff will be dunked in a polar plunge dunk tank!  Again, THANK YOU!

This is just a reminder that this is week and next week are short weeks!!  We do not have school on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Then next Monday, there is no school as it is a teacher professional development and work day.

Attendance – The students averaged 94% this week in daily attendance!  Kindergarten was in the lead with 96%, keep up the good work. We could not be happier seeing our students at school consistently!

Thank you to those that attended AVID night.  We had over 150 people in attendance and it was so fun to see families collaborating and learning all about AVID.  We will hold another family night on March 18th.

Planning Time:  I wanted to take a moment to share some information about how the teachers at our school are utilizing the additional teacher planning time that was added to the schedule this year.

All of the teachers are extremely grateful for this extra time, as it has allowed us to be more prepared, organized, and focused on delivering high-quality instruction to our students. We use this time to lesson plan, grade assignments, respond to emails, contact parents, get materials ready, collaborate with our team members, and handle various other classroom tasks.

This investment in our planning time is invaluable and will help to maintain high teacher retention rates, as well as enable us to be even better teachers for your students. Thank you for your continued support of our amazing teaching staff – it is greatly appreciated!

Last Call for Choir Permission Slips!

Choir will be starting next Tuesday, October 22. In order for us to have an accurate head count, all permission slips are due by this Wednesday October 16th. Contact Miss B. with any questions at hailey.beutler@canyonsdistrict.org.   https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KzpEI5nSR9tEbCvwVHI6a32bPikCXmM9/view?usp=sharing

Halloween – Halloween is quickly approaching! We will be holding our annual Halloween Parade as well as our classroom parties on Friday, Nov.1. The parade will start at 9:15 inside and we will proceed outside to the parade route around 9:30. Parents are encouraged to line the parade route and cheer us on. We are following the same parade route as last year. Parking is challenging on Halloween.  You are encouraged to park in one of the two church lots across the street from the school.   We would love you to then spread out throughout the route so we have the community and parents cheering us all along the route. We will have the 5th grade lead us and then have 4, 3, 2, 1, and Kinder follow.  Please see the route below.

Please help your child to pick an appropriate costume. Here are some guidelines:

  • No face masks or full-face paint.  We need to be able to visually identify students in costumes.
  • Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature or employ questionable props are not permitted.
  • Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted.  Fake (or real) weapons are not permitted.
  • Costumes that can be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not permitted.
  • Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in classes
  • Costumes should include shoes
  • Costumes and dressing up is optional

Halloween parade and parties will be on Nov. 1st   No costumes on Thursday! There was a typo last week so I wanted to clarify.

Please read the Steam Squad information. It started last week, but it is not too late for your student to join this week.

Our staff thought it might be fun to highlight some of our favorite books. This week we have Ms. Elvin and Ms. Halligan.

Taylor Elvin, 4th Grade Teacher: When I was in elementary school, I remember one of my favorite book series being A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. This was the first time I remember being truly captivated by what I was reading and being unable to put a book down. The series follows three siblings as they embark on adventures, and misadventures, at the hand of their distant relative, Count Olaf. The books capture themes of adversity, resilience, and the importance of knowledge, which are three themes that I believe are important in real life as well.

Meghan Halligan, 5th Grade teacher: When I was little, my favorite author was Jan Brett. I was first introduced to her by reading her book The Mitten. This was a cozy winter story about curious animals in the forest who find a lost mitten in the snow. One thing I like about Jan Brett’s books was how there are little side illustration in her books that show upcoming events in the book. It was so fun to get to predict what character might enter the story next. Her books all use beautiful stories with such engaging visuals that they make for an enjoyable read!
