Principal’s Message

Red Carpet on Monday – Monday, the first day of school, we will have a red carpet welcoming for students. Parents are encouraged to line the front of the school and help clap the students into the school. We will start the procession with the 5th grade students at 8:55 and the other grades will follow. Parents are permitted to go into the back of the school to help students find their lines on the first day only.

Starting Tuesday, parents will be asked to stay in the front of the school or drop students off on the grass out back. This is for student safety as we have over 500 students this year. Teachers will be in back to help students.

Kindergarten parents are encouraged to drop students off on Wednesday, the kindergarten first day of school, in the back and then help us clap in their Kindergarteners in the front of the school.

We will continue our Morning Mindfulness meetings this year which will start on the second day of school. At 8:40 each morning, students will be welcomed into the gym for mindfulness activities, morning announcements, the pledge of allegiance, and singing the school song. They will then be dismissed to their classes at 8:55.

Policy Updates

As we jump into another exciting school year, we want to share a few quick policy updates. Thank you in advance for your partnership we truly couldn’t do it without our incredible school community!

Check-In Reminder:
We love welcoming parents, guardians, and volunteers into our building! To ensure our school remains a safe space for every child, new legislation this year requires all visitors and volunteers to sign in using a government-issued ID. Please make sure to bring your ID with you every time you visit, even if it’s just for a quick drop-off or pop-in. We appreciate your help in keeping our Yeti building secure!

Non-Food Incentives & Treats:
We also have new legislation this year regarding food in schools and handing out edible treats to students. We’re getting creative with exciting, non-food rewards to celebrate student achievements.

Classroom Celebrations: If you would like to send something to share for birthdays or special occasions, please consider sending non-edible options (like fun pencils, stickers, or small trinkets). Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms safe, healthy, and inclusive for all students!

Raising Amazing Readers Together!
There is a big statewide push for literacy this year, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Reading opens up endless possibilities, and we are excited to partner with our families to foster a lifelong love of books in our students.Look out for our new Literacy Section in the Yeti Yell each week! We’ll be sharing fun tips, quick strategies, and updates on how we can work together to build strong, confident readers.Thank you for your continuous support, enthusiasm, and partnership. Let’s make this an unforgettable school year!

School Community Council

Nominations are now open for the Glacier Hills School Community Council (SCC). School Community Councils are composed of elected parents and/or guardians whose children attend the school, elected employee representatives, and the school principal. As directed by state law, School Community Councils (SCC) review achievement data, help identify academic needs, provide input on school improvement plans, and assist in evaluating the success of the plans. The SCC is also responsible for determining how the LAND Trust funds are used in our school. When Utah was granted Statehood, parcels of land were placed in a perpetual Trust with the children of Utah as beneficiaries. Revenues from these lands go into the Permanent State School Fund. The dividends and interest of that fund are distributed annually to each public school in Utah.Serving on the School Community Council is an excellent way to be part of school improvement and supporting your child’s educational experience. Each fall parents and teachers are invited to submit a Declaration of Candidacy to serve on the SCC. Elections are held each year before the start of the school year.If you are interested in being a member of the School Community Council (SCC), please email Julia Winfree (Julia.winfree@canyonsdistrict.org) by Monday, August 24th, 2026.

Celebrations

Thank you for making our Back To School night a great success! We loved seeing all of the kids smiling faces and the excitement of meeting their new teachers. As a reminder, if you see any elementary school-aged children in your neighborhood who haven’t registered or enrolled, we would love to have them!
PTA
The next meeting is scheduled for: September 9th at 9:15am in the PTA Room.

We would like to encourage each family to join PTA this year, it is a small fee that makes a huge impact for our community and students. PTA helps make truly memorable experiences for students like movie nights, skate nights, class parties, field day, etc. Let’s make this year great together!
