Yeti Yell – February 26, 2023

THE YETI YELL

Feb. 26, 2023

Good evening Yeti Families,

Wow, the snow!  With a Monday holiday, a snow day, and a late start it was a crazy week!  We are expecting snow this week and we would like to ask parents to send students with snow clothes, gloves, and boots. The district does not plow our playground and blacktop. Risk management feels it is safer for students to play on packed snow instead of black ice.  It is deep outside so winter clothes will help students to stay dry.

Parent Teacher Conferences are this week on Wednesday and Thursday. If you have not signed up on Skyward, your teacher will sign a time to you.  Please stop by the bookfair when you are attending  conferences.  It will be on the stage this week. The lost and found will be near the stage door. Please look through the lost and found.  We will donate any items next Monday that are not claimed.

Early Release Thursday, No School Friday!  This is just a reminder that this Thursday, March 2nd is an early release day.   Students will be released at 1:55 PM so that teachers can begin conferences.  There is no school Friday, March 3rd.  Monday is a remote learning day, see below.

Remote-Learning Day – Monday March 6th, 2023

Monday, March 6 will be a Remote-Learning Day for all Canyons District students. The day follows a Friday, March 3 no-school day after the week of scheduled Parent-Teacher Conferences for most schools. While no new instruction will be provided online on that day, students will be provided remote-learning activities and teachers will be available to meet with students virtually between 10 a.m. and noon. Glacier Hills teachers will be sending home packets on Thursday, March 2nd.

Free and Reduce Lunch applications:

We have noticed that we have some high breakfast/lunch balances. We wanted to make you aware that there is a Free and Reduced Lunch application on Skyward.  Please feel free to fill it out and see if your family qualifies for this assistance.  Unlike the last two years, breakfast and lunch do cost children this year.  In order to have free or reduced lunch, you must fill out the form and be approved. Please see the attached directions.

Inclusion and Kindness Week – We are excited to have our first Inclusion and Kindness week. Please see the attached flier for the fun activities we have planned.

Thrive Time Scope and Sequence and Curriculum – Last week I sent information about the new Thrive Time curriculum.  Several parents asked if they could view the lessons.  The Thrive Time lessons are all posted on the Canyons School District website.   Here is a link to the district page. https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/thrivetime/

Attached you will also find the Glacier Hills scope and sequence so you can see what lessons we are teaching each week.

Grandparents Day

Glacier Hills would like to invite Grandparent’s to join us for lunch this Wednesday or Thursday, March 1st and 2nd.  If a student doesn’t have a grandparent that can attend, they can invite an important adult in their life.

Grandparents are invited to bring their own lunch (NO school lunch provided for visiting adults).  They may bring a lunch for their student as well if they would like. If grandparents are providing a lunch for students, please have students select home lunch for their lunch choice in the morning. Grandparents and students will eat in the gym anytime between 11:00 and 1:00. Please come to the school lobby NO Earlier than 11:00 to check in, and a member of the student council will take the grandparent to the student’s class to pick them up. Below are the recommended days by last name.

Please do not hesitate to come on the other day if that best suits your schedule.
Wednesday, 3/1- last names A-J
Thursday, 3/2 last names K-Z

Grade level lunches –
K 11:00 1st – 11:20, 2nd – 11:40, 3rd – 12:00. 4th- 12:20,  5th – 12:40
If grandparents have more than one grandchild, they can attend at one of the student’s lunches and we will have the other student(s) join.

*Tip for Grandparents- Know your student’s teacher and grade before you arrive at the school to speed up the process of being united with them for lunch.
*Due to capacity issues, please limit 2 adults to each student.
Grandparents are invited to visit the book fair with their grandchildren after lunch. It will be held on the stage next to the gym.

 PTA News:

It is Book Fair Time!  This time all students will be given $5 Scholastic Cash to use at the book fair.  All you have to do is give your student’s name to the cashier when checking out!

We need volunteers to help with our Book Fair Preview. Each class has 20 minutes to preview all the books at the fair.  Students will be allowed to use their $5 credit at this time to get a book $5 or less.  This is what we need help with.  It is Monday and Tuesday, February 27-28.  Sign up here to help.

If students don’t pick out a $5 book at the preview, they can come back another time with their parents/grandparents to use their $5 Scholastic Cash for a book or other merchandise.
