School Community Council Minutes

August 26th  5:15-6:15 PM

  4. Principal/School Updates
    • School updates:
      1. Food Policies: due to new legislation and significant allergies in our building we have been working through snacks and treats in the building. We have the fresh fruit and veggie program Tuesdays and Thursdays this year, 3rd grade is the only grade who has reported needing snack (due to their 4 hour time between breakfast and lunch), most grade levels are encouraging for birthday prizes or trinkets rather than edible treats.
      2. School Fundraiser: Our school based fundraiser this year is through SpriritWear, families can purchase yeti branded clothing and other items through the website all year long. The weekly sale will be posted in the Yeti Yell. 
      3. Reading Logs: at this time, our school is continuing to use paper logs or the grade level planners for tracking reading minutes. We will not be using beanstack and may be using a different platform later in the year when it is ready.

  5. SCC Chair Update & Calendar
    • Review SCC responsibilities and expectations
      1. SCC is responsible for the school safety plan, safe walking route, digital citizenship, approving and monitoring the TSSP and LandTrust plans. 
      2. Review of upcoming training dates for SCC members to attend.

  7. Review of 2026–27 Land Trust Plan
    • Review goals and action steps
      1. Samantha Harris reviewed the 2026-2027 LandTrust and TSSP goals and the action steps associated with each goal. 
      2. Review planned expenditures
      3. Discuss how SCC will monitor progress throughout the school year
      4. Questions and discussion
  8. PTA Update
    • Next meeting will be Sept. 9th at 9:15a
    • Reflections Art Competition opens September 1st through Oct. 26th. More information to come.
    • PTA is doing an evening fundraiser on October 23rd the Fall Festival. This will be free to enter, however food and activities will require purchasing tickets or a wrist band. Additionally there will a silent auction and PTA is seeking inkind donations from community members for the auction.

  10. Member Concerns/Comments
    • Ms. Robbins shared that the announcements over the PA system are loud in the community and poses a safety concern. Other members mentioned they can also hear any announcements broadly as well. We will discuss this further at another meeting after Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Winfree look into if the volume can be adjusted. 
    • Mrs. Buchanan shared that she is concerned about students watching wildkratts episodes in library brain booster. Mrs. Harris said she will look into this but also shared this first week has been quite interrupted in library due to a thrive time preassessment and Acadience Testing.
