Hello Glacier Hills Community!
Welcome back! Please remember that our first day back in school will be tomorrow, Monday, January 6th. We hope you had a wonderful holiday vacation. As we start the New Year, we encourage you to embrace our goals of improving attendance and fostering reading at home.
This week, we will conduct our Acadience testing on Tuesday and Wednesday, which occurs three times a year. Additionally, we will be reviewing our behavior expectations to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
Lost and found – We have noticed an increasing number of items accumulating in our lost and found, so we decided to create a brief video aimed at helping students keep track of their belongings. We will be viewing this video in class, and I encourage you to watch it as a family and discuss its content with your children. Additionally, please label your children’s winter clothing with their names to prevent items from getting lost in the first place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4EUCfjCiR4
Books from the PTA: We would like to extend a huge thank you to the PTA for providing a book for each child before the holiday break. We hope you had an opportunity to read together over the break. The PTA support makes a significant difference in our school community. Thank you PTA for being an integral part of our students’ learning experiences.
Staff members favorite books: this week we have Mrs. Bonham and Mrs. Jennings.
Mrs. Lora Bonham, Social Worker:
One of my favorite childhood memories is remembering bedtime and picture books with my mother. I would admire every detail of the illustrations while my mother used her voice in colorful highs and lows to tell the story through each character’s viewpoint. Some of my favorite books were “Are You My Mother?” “The Tales of Peter Rabbit,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” “Corduroy,” “Curious George,” “The Berenstain Bears,” “Little Bear,” “The Best Nest” and so many more. As I look back, I can see how reading time with my mother began to shape how I saw the world, helped me to understand the perspectives of others, and instilled curiosity and interest in the imaginative, the exhilarating, and even the tragic stories of others. (Not to mention the bonding it did with my mom.) When I had children of my own, I continued the practice with them and it also became one of my favorite memories of their childhoods. I am convinced that reading together positively builds relationships.
Mrs. Auri Jennings, STEM Booster Teacher: As I grew up my mom bought me the Fablehaven series. The series follows the adventure of 2 children who stumble into the world of fantasy with Fairies, witches, centaurs, and a whole lot of other fantasy characters. The series takes the normal world and shows how it is hiding the magic world. It is a fun and exciting series, that keeps you pulled in and keeps you going. It is one of my favorite series and I even encourage my own children to read them.
