Hello Glacier Hills Community!

I wanted to update you on our attendance challenge. We are aiming for 92% of our students to be on track for attendance.  Our attendance rates have really improved since last year and we currently have the third best attendance for an elementary school in the district!  Thank you, parents!  We have had a lot of illness since our winter break. Please keep your student home if they have a fever.  Last week we averaged 91% with 5th Grade leading the way with 94% for the week!

4th & 5th Grade Musical Auditions and Crew Sign-ups

We are excited to begin our production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka (Kids Edition)! See the info packet for the permission form and more details about auditions, rehearsals, and performances.

Auditions will be January 28th-30th after school until 5pm. Please turn in the permission form by January 27th. Students signing up for stage crew don’t need to attend auditions but need to turn in their form. The first cast and crew meeting and script read-through will be the day after auditions- January 31st after school until 3:10pm. Contact Camilla Duncan (Drama teacher) with any questions: camilla.duncan@canyonsdistrict.org

Nominations for Teacher of the Year are now open! –   It is that time of year again to celebrate our teaches.  https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/teacher-of-the-year/2025toy/

Staff members favorite books:  this week we have Mrs. Salter and Mrs. Doss.

Mrs. Luana Grant, 4/5 ACC para educator:

The Baby-Sitters Club series of books influenced my love of reading because they created a world where I could see myself in the characters and their everyday lives, making each story feel personal and relatable. The blend of friendship, challenges, and humor drew me in, making reading not just an activity but an adventure I looked forward to. The way the series tackled real-life issues with warmth and understanding deepened my connection to the stories, turning reading into a comforting and exciting escape that I couldn’t get enough of.

Mrs. Sarah Curtis, 5th Grade Teacher:

I really like The Giver by Lois Lowry because it makes you think about what’s important in life. Jonas, the main character, lives in a world where everything seems perfect, but he discovers that there’s so much more to life than just doing what’s expected. As he learns about feelings, memories, and making his own choices, you see how brave he is for wanting to understand the truth. This book is special because it shows us how important it is to ask questions and be yourself. -Mrs. Curtis, 5th grade teacher
