Hello Glacier Hills Community,
The snow has finally arrived. We had a few inside mornings this past week. For those of you that are new to Glacier Hills this year, the long bright lights that hang in the front entryway will turn red if we are going to have the students line up inside that morning. That will help our drop off parents to know the students will be inside starting at 8:40 AM. The bussing students will be seated on the learning stairs to watch a video when their bus arrives at the school. Then they will be sent to their pods with the other students. The breakfast doors open at 8:30 for students that eat breakfast and then students will be sent to their grade level pods as well. Please be aware that the lights are just to signal an inside morning. This does not mean that we will have students in all day long. Please continue to send coats, gloves, and hats with warm shoes. If the weather clears up throughout the day, we will send students out to get fresh air during their recess times.
Snow Days – Now that the snow is finally here, please be aware that the snow may cause delays in start times or possibly even a move to remote learning days. The district will send you a message through parent square if there is a delay or remote learning day early in the morning. There will also be a post to the district social media accounts. Please check your parent square account on bad weather days.
Teacher of the Year– https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/general-news/laud-csd-teachers-with-nominations-for-2024-teacher-of-the-year/ It is time to celebrate our amazing teachers again. This year we will not be sending home paper copies, it will all be done online. Please help us to select a Glacier Hills Teacher of the Year. This teacher will go on to be considered for Canyons District’s overall Teacher of the Year.
Criteria: The Teacher of the Year must have taught at least one year. The teacher must have demonstrated ability to reach students at all levels, establishes and maintain positive learning environments, uses a variety of evidence-based instructional techniques to provide students with a high-quality education, and is responsive to parents and patrons.
Please fill out the following form! https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/nominate-teacheroftheyear/
Release Time: Now that we are half way through the school year, our students are very comfortable with dismissal each day. In the past we have been sending our Kinder students and some walkers out a few minutes early to help with the craziness of dismissal. We now think things are running smoothly. We will be dismissing all students at 3:35. We will not be releasing them a few minutes early, so please be patient as they work their way outside. It may take a few more minutes, but we feel strongly we would like to recapture a few minutes of instructional time at the end of the day.
Cell phone and cell phone watches – We are aware that we have students that got a cell phone or cell phone watch over the holidays. We thought this may be a good time to review the cell phone policy with parents. Cell phones/watches that have access to the internet or phone, are to be turned off and in students backpacks while on campus. This means that the cell phone can be turned on once the student leaves the school grounds, or loads the bus. We know that parents want to be able to get ahold of their student on the way to school and back. If you need to get ahold of your student during the day, please call the office to leave a message. Please call the office no later than 3:00 PM for changes to a student’s schedule to go home. In most cases, this should be set up before students leave in the morning, but we understand emergencies. If a cell phone/watch is out of the backpack during the day, it will be sent to the office for a parent to pick up. Thank you for your help enforcing this with your students.
Feb. 1st STEAM night Family Fundraiser – We would like for you to add the Family STEAM night to your calendar. This is a Family night that will conclude the school’s fundraiser week. We will sell Costco pizza, offer many activities STEAM hands on activities for families, and host several demonstrations from STEAM professionals. The night will start at 5:30 and conclude at 7:00. There will not be a fee to come to the STEAM night, but we will still be gathering donations to meet our fundraising goals. Please watch for more information to come!
From the PTA: Come to our next PTA meeting this Tuesday, January 9th at 9:15. We meet upstairs in the room across from the media center. We will be discussing our next Great Artist project, Beach Day and the Savers portion of the school’s fundraiser. We’d love your input!
