Hello Glacier Hills Community!

Thank you to the PTA for a wonderful Ribbon Week! We had such a fun week celebrating all week.  There will be no Reading Club this Friday because of Halloween.

Veterans Day assembly – On Nov. 8th at 9:45 AM, we will be holding our annual Veterans Day Assembly.  We would like to invite any veterans in the community and their families to attend a small breakfast at 9:15 and then they will proceed to the assembly. Attached you will find a poster for families to fill out to be displayed in the hallway at Glacier Hills. We will also send a hard copy home for you.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/16FCtQwZ3xCa7y_Thed2fdzP6BMXah42M/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=113769776504027874636&rtpof=true&sd=true

If your veteran is planning to attend, please fill out this RSVP by Monday, Nov. 4th https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScBtWj294DqsFtzdOBb95QgEaxud8cSvNB_B6UlgQ5ize5etA/viewform?usp=sharing

Attendance – Our students averaged 95% this week, that is up 1%!  That seems small, but that is an average of 6 more students learning at school each day this week!  Our 4th grade rocked it this week with a 98% average, way to go 4th graders!

Halloween – Our Halloween Celebration is this Friday!

The parade will start at 9:15 inside and we will proceed outside to the parade route around 9:30. Parents are encouraged to line the parade route and cheer us on. We are following the same parade route as last year. Parking is challenging on Halloween.  You are encouraged to park in one of the two church lots across the street from the school.  We would love you to then spread out throughout the route so we have the community and parents cheering us all along the route. A map of the route is posted below. We will have the 5th grade lead us and then have 4, 3, 2, 1, and Kinder follow.

Halloween parade and parties are on Friday, Nov. 1st.  Please no costumes or face paint on Thursday!

Please help your child to pick an appropriate costume. Here are some guidelines:

  • No face masks or full-face paint.  We need to be able to visually identify students in costumes.
  • Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature or employ questionable props are not permitted.
  • Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted.  Fake (or real) weapons are not permitted.
  • Costumes that can be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not permitted.
  • Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in classes
  • Costumes should include shoes
  • Costumes and dressing up is optional

Our staff thought it might be fun to highlight some of our favorite books. This week we have Ms. Frever and Mrs. Roundy.

Ms. Frever, Speech-Language Pathologist: Growing up, my parents and I would read the Encyclopedia Brown books. They were about a child detective that solved mysteries for the neighborhood children through his own detective agency. Leroy “Encyclopedia” Brown also helped his father, the chief of the police department, solve the most baffling crimes. I loved reading along to look for clues to help solve the ten mysteries in each book!

Mrs. Roundy, Kindergarten Teacher: My favorite book growing up was The Tale of Despereaux! I loved the way it connected three different stories into one big story. The story follows a little mouse named Despereaux who has seemingly impossible dreams and the determination to follow them. The story is also about a rat named Roscuro, who is trying to change his dark life and a girl named Miggery Sow who has an impossible wish. The way the three stories come together was exciting and magical to me and I still love this book as an adult.

PTA News:

The Glacier Hills PTA wants to thank everyone who helped with, and sent in donations for the Fundraiser. We got so close to our goal by reaching just under $11,000.00 and we appreciate every cent that was brought in. We decided that the teachers deserved to be dunked and so they took their plunge on Friday and the top 2 winners in each grade were awarded their blizzard bags.  Thank you for supporting the Glacier Hills PTA .

Reflections projects are due on November 10. That is only the weeks away! Encourage your student to participate. There are several different categories: 2D art, 3D art, photography, music, dance, writing, and film. The theme is “Accepting Imperfections.”

Remember, we will accept entries through the end of October. Go to https://www.utahpta.org/ref to enter your art.
