Principal’s Message

Red Carpet on Monday – Tomorrow, the first day of school, we will have a red carpet welcoming for students. Parents are encouraged to line the front of the school and help clap the students into the school. We will start the procession with the 5th grade students at 8:55 and the other grades will follow. Parents are permitted to go into the back of the school to help students find their lines on the first day only. Starting Tuesday, parents will be asked to stay in the front of the school or drop students off on the grass out back. This is for student safety as we have over 550 students this year. Teachers will be in back to help students. Kindergarten parents are encouraged to drop students off on Wednesday, the kindergarten first day of school, in the back and then help us clap in their Kindergarteners in the front of the school.
We will continue our Morning Mindfulness meetings this year. At 8:40 each morning, students will be welcomed into the gym for mindfulness activities, morning announcements, the pledge of allegiance, and singing the school song. They will then be dismissed to their classes at 8:55.

Important Reminders

Drop off and Pick up Directions: Students eating breakfast may be dropped off as early as 8:30 AM in front of the cafeteria. Students not eating breakfast should not be dropped off before 8:40 AM, as that is when teacher supervision begins.Car Drop off : Glacier Hills is a large elementary and many families drive students to and from school. We have many cars entering the parking lot and drop off lane daily. Kindergarten Schedule

Kindergarten students will start this school year a little differently than in years past. Kindergarten will start on Wednesday, August 20th. On Monday and Tuesday there will be individual appointments for KEEP testing. Parents will sign up on Skyward for individual appointments.

ClassLink

This year, our district is transitioning from Clever to a new single sign-on platform called ClassLink. Just like Clever, ClassLink allows students to sign in once and then easily access all of the applications and websites they use in the classroom. Additional sign-in information will be shared by your child’s teacher, so please watch for those details coming soon.

Reading and Math Minutes

As we kick off a new school year, your student will be receiving a reading and math minute tracking calendar. Each grade level has its own reading minutes and math fact practice minutes goal. We will be tracking progress for both areas on paper, and entering reading minutes into the Beanstack app. Families can log reading minutes at home directly in Beanstack, or if needed, we can help enter your child’s minutes at school.
This year, we’re working together to build a strong culture of reading with an exciting community goal of 550,000 minutes! Students will have the chance to participate in monthly challenges—some created by our school and others through Road to Success. Along the way, prizes and recognition will keep our readers motivated, and one lucky student will even win a brand-new bicycle through Road to Success!
To get started, simply follow the login instructions below for either the computer or the mobile app. Let’s make it a year full of learning, growth, and lots of reading!

School Community Council

Nominations are now open for the Glacier Hills School Community Council (SCC). School Community Councils are composed of elected parents and/or guardians whose children attend the school, elected employee representatives, and the school principal. As directed by state law, School Community Councils (SCC) review achievement data, help identify academic needs, provide input on school improvement plans, and assist in evaluating the success of the plans.
The SCC is also responsible for determining how the LAND Trust funds are used in our school. When Utah was granted Statehood, parcels of land were placed in a perpetual Trust with the children of Utah as beneficiaries. Revenues from these lands go into the Permanent State School Fund. The dividends and interest of that fund are distributed annually to each public school in Utah.
Serving on the School Community Council is an excellent way to be part of school improvement and supporting your child’s educational experience. Each fall parents and teachers are invited to submit a Declaration of Candidacy to serve on the SCC. Elections are held each year before the start of the school year.
If you are interested in being a member of the School Community Council (SCC), please email Julia Winfree (Julia.winfree@canyonsdistrict.org) by Monday, September 1, 2025.

Celebrations

Thank you for making our Back To School night a great success! We loved seeing all of the kids smiling faces and the excitement of meeting their new teachers.
