Yeti Yell 8.4.25

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the first official Yeti Yell! This newsletter will be typically sent every Sunday evening. I am hopeful that parents take the time to read the information each week, as it is important that we are a team that works together to support your children. The first few newsletters are long as there is a lot to share. Please take the time to read to the end. The entire faculty and staff of Glacier Hills Elementary is so excited to start the 2025-2026 school year! Go Yetis!

Meet your Assistant Principal, Samantha Harris

My name is Samantha Harris, and I’m thrilled to be joining the Glacier Hills Elementary family as the Assistant Principal! This year marks my 11th year in education. I’m originally from Spokane, Washington, and began my career as a 5th-grade general education teacher. I then spent five incredible years working with students in special education with significant behavioral challenges. For the past two years, I’ve been a district behavior specialist supporting PreK through Post-high programs and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Outside of school, I’m an avid lover of the outdoors. Whether I’m mountain biking, skiing (downhill or in the backcountry), rock climbing, or hiking, you can usually find me adventuring with my husband and our two dogs, Ollie and Scout.
I’m so excited to start this journey as an administrator and to learn from the Glacier Hills community what it truly means to be a Yeti!

School Community Council

Nominations are now open for the Glacier Hills School Community Council (SCC). School Community Councils are composed of elected parents and/or guardians whose children attend the school, elected employee representatives, and the school principal. As directed by state law, School Community Councils (SCC) review achievement data, help identify academic needs, provide input on school improvement plans, and assist in evaluating the success of the plans.

The SCC is also responsible for determining how the LAND Trust funds are used in our school. When Utah was granted Statehood, parcels of land were placed in a perpetual Trust with the children of Utah as beneficiaries. Revenues from these lands go into the Permanent State School Fund. The dividends and interest of that fund are distributed annually to each public school in Utah.
Serving on the School Community Council is an excellent way to be part of school improvement and supporting your child’s educational experience. Each fall parents and teachers are invited to submit a Declaration of Candidacy to serve on the SCC. Elections are held each year before the start of the school year.

If you are interested in being a member of the School Community Council (SCC), please email Julia Winfree (Julia.winfree@canyonsdistrict.org) by Monday, September 1, 2025.
