Hello Glacier Hills Community!
I hope this message finds you all well and refreshed after the Labor Day weekend! want to extend my warmest wishes for a fantastic week ahead. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to make this year the best one yet. Here’s to a wonderful week filled with joy and positive experiences for all!
Reading Incentive Plan Begins this week: We are excited to introduce a new reading plan designed to foster a love of reading and enhance literacy skills. Starting this week, students will be encouraged to read at home every night and track their progress using a reading log. Each student will receive a log to record their nightly reading, and those who consistently complete their reading and return their logs each month will be awarded special monthly reading tags as a token of their achievement. The first reading log will be sent home on Tuesday. with your students.
Teacher Reading Spotlights: As we are encouraging at home reading, our staff thought it might be fun to highlight some of our favorite books. Each week we will highlight two teachers and their favorite children’s book. First up, Ms. B and Mrs. Bingham.
Ms. Beutler (Ms. B) 1st grade teacher:
Of all the books I read growing up, my favorites were always The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids. This series is about a group of friends who keep encountering regular everyday people who may or may not be mythological or supernatural creatures like a vampire, ghost, or genie in disguise. I loved trying to figure out if the person was actually a person or something else and would always try to see if I could solve it before the characters in the story did. This series started my interest in Mystery books which I still love to read today!
Mrs. Bingham 2nd Grade teacher:
My favorite book series growing up was The Black Stallion Series. My dad read my brother and I the first book in the series and then a few years later, The Black Stallion movie came out. It was cool to have background knowledge of the book so I could compare what I had read to the movie. I read many of the other books in the series on my own. As I grew up, I was interested in the stories of real race horses that have inspired me in many ways, such as Seabiscut, and Secretariat. These are amazing animals, and these stories also remind me of my dad and that he took the time to read them to us. I read the Black Stallion to my own boys when they were little too. It will always be a family story that we all love.
Before and After School Opportunities: Next week we will share a schedule of all the Glacier Hills before and after school programs and offerings for the 2024-2025 school year. Canyons School District is offering orchestra at our school. Below you will find information about the orchestra program. Stay tuned…
