Yeti Yell – January 16, 2023

THE YETI YELL

January 16, 2023

Good afternoon Yeti Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the three-day weekend. We are expecting a few storms this week.   Please make sure you send your students with coats, boots, gloves, etc.  This is a long Yeti Yell, please read to the end, it has new information for you!

Holiday Sing Along – I am  finally getting you a copy of the Holiday Sing Along video. I am sorry I did not get this out sooner. It was a lot of fun! Our plan for next year is to invite the families into view our sing along. I would like to thank our STEM teacher, Mrs. Jennings, for the filming and editing of the video. The video is posted on our Glacier Hills Website homepage.  Here is the link: https://glacierhills.canyonsdistrict.org/announcements/holiday-sing-along/

Kindergarten Registration – If you have a child that will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2023, the child qualifies for kindergarten this fall. State law requires that all school districts in Utah abide by the same September 1st entrance cut-off date.
If you have an incoming kindergarten student, please begin the registration process by following the steps outlined on our website. The https://glacierhills.canyonsdistrict.org/2022-23-kindergarten-registration/

Glacier Hills Teacher of the Year—We are at that time of year to nominate our Teacher of the Year.  The window is open through Feb. 3.   If you have a teacher who has had a positive impact on your child, please take the time to nominate them.  The PTA President works with the school to select our school Teacher of the Year from the nominations. The PTSA helps us recognize each of our nominees.  Teacher of the Year Nomination Form

Drop off and Pick Up video  -Thank you for your patience as we continue to refine and teach our patrons the correct procedures for drop off and pick up. Please view this video if you drive your student(s) to school or pick them up. In the video it talks about staying in line to exit.  This is just for the Drop off in the mornings. In the afternoons, please pull out once you have your student loaded.  One additional piece we would like to add is that the entire sidewalk in the drop-off lane is a drop off zone. Please have students exit the car starting right after the turn. This will dramatically increase the number of cars that can be dropping off at one time.  https://youtu.be/Emq1i6u7JMs

Gates in the back of the school: There have been gates installed on the east and west fences in the back of the playground.  Our School Community Council, staff, and district risk management department worked together to advocate for adding gates to the exiting fence.  The gates are to help increase safety for our students during the school hours.  The gates will be open while school is not in session, this includes weekends.  They will be locked at 9:15 in the morning and unlocked by 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday.

Digital Citizenship is important to Glacier Hills. Here is our Digital Citizenship outreach article.

Sandy City Fire Department
Safety is a big deal for Sandy City Fire Department, especially for their youngest citizens and their families.  The safety tips for January are about Choking.
1.  Take small bites when you eat to avoid choking.
2.  Don’t put toys, medicine or anything else in your mouth that doesn’t belong there.
3.  If a balloon breaks, pick up all the pieces so that babies and pets don’t eat them.
4.  Keep small items away from little brothers and sisters.
